Position Summary
Jennings Mechanical is seeking a hands-on, solutions-oriented IT Systems Administrator to lead and support the company’s technology environment as we transition from outsourced managed IT services to an internally managed model.

This role will serve as the primary technology resource for approximately 60 employees across two South Carolina offices. The IT Systems Administrator will provide day-to-day end-user support while also overseeing infrastructure, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365 administration, vendor relationships, and long-term technology planning.

The ideal candidate is highly responsive, technically capable, business-minded, and comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced construction and service environment. 

This position is expected to maintain strong relationships with outside specialty IT partners while building internal capability, ensuring Jennings Mechanical benefits from both responsive in-house support and expert external resources when needed.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities
End User Support & Technical Troubleshooting
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for IT support across Charleston and Orangeburg office locations.
  • Provide hands-on support for employees experiencing hardware, software, network, printing, phone, and connectivity issues.
  • Troubleshoot desktop, laptop, mobile device, and peripheral issues for office and field personnel.
  • Manage employee onboarding and offboarding, including workstation setup, permissions, access management, and device deployment.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service and responsiveness to employee needs.
Microsoft 365 Administration
  • Administer and maintain the company’s Microsoft 365 environment, including:
    • Microsoft Exchange
    • Teams
    • SharePoint
    • OneDrive
    • User licensing and permissions
  • Manage security settings, MFA, email security, and user access protocols.
  • Support collaboration tools and file management best practices.
Infrastructure & Systems Management
  • Oversee day-to-day management of company networks, internet connectivity, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, and system performance across both offices.
  • Coordinate and maintain hardware including computers, printers, phones, conference room technology, and mobile devices.
  • Manage backup systems, disaster recovery readiness, and business continuity processes.
  • Maintain IT documentation, system inventories, and network records.
Cybersecurity & Risk Management
  • Implement and maintain cybersecurity best practices to protect company systems and data.
  • Manage endpoint protection, patching, MFA, password standards, and user access controls.
  • Monitor for system vulnerabilities and suspicious activity.
  • Coordinate with outside cybersecurity or specialty vendors as needed.
Vendor & Technology Management
  • Manage relationships with outside technology vendors, internet providers, phone systems, and specialty IT consultants.
  • Maintain productive working relationships with external IT and cybersecurity partners to support escalated issues, specialized expertise, and business continuity needs.
  • Serve as primary liaison for escalated issues requiring external support.
  • Evaluate and recommend technology improvements that support business growth and efficiency.
  • Maintain software licensing and technology-related contracts.
Business Systems Support
  • Support business-critical software platforms used by Jennings Mechanical, including accounting, project management, estimating, payroll, and operational systems.
  • Partner with leadership and department managers to improve workflows and identify technology solutions.
  • Assist with reporting, integrations, and system optimization.
Strategic IT Planning
  • Develop and maintain a scalable IT roadmap to support company growth.
  • Recommend annual technology budgets, hardware replacement cycles, and software investments.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, security, and operational performance through technology.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of progressively responsible IT experience required.
  • Experience independently supporting small to mid-sized business environments strongly preferred.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft 365 administration required.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Windows operating systems
    • Networking, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless systems
    • Cybersecurity best practices
    • Cloud-based environments and SaaS applications
    • Hardware deployment and troubleshooting
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to travel occasionally between Charleston and Orangeburg offices.
