Jennings Mechanical is looking for a detail-oriented, analytical Estimator to join our Preconstruction team in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

If you enjoy solving problems, working with technical information, and understanding how a project comes together before construction begins, this could be the opportunity for you. You'll work directly with our Director of Preconstruction and collaborate with project managers, field teams, vendors, and subcontractors to develop accurate, competitive estimates for mechanical construction projects.

We're looking for someone with a strong technical foundation, a willingness to learn, and an interest in growing their expertise in mechanical estimating.  New graduates with an interest in developing in the construction industry are encouraged to apply.

What You'll Do

• Review construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents to understand project scope and requirements.

• Perform quantity takeoffs and develop material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor cost estimates.

• Request and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes.

• Identify discrepancies, scope gaps, and potential cost risks before bids are submitted.

• Prepare detailed estimates, bid summaries, and supporting documentation.

• Collaborate with preconstruction, project management, and field personnel to validate assumptions and pricing.

• Participate in pre-bid meetings and project site visits as needed.

• Maintain organized records of estimates, vendor pricing, and historical project costs.

• Assist with project handoffs and compare estimated costs with actual results to strengthen future estimates.

• Contribute ideas to improve estimating processes, accuracy, and efficiency.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred but not required.

• Approximately 2–4 years of relevant experience in construction estimating, mechanical construction, or a related technical role preferred but not required

• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to accuracy.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general computer applications.

• Strong communication and organizational skills.

• A collaborative mindset, willingness to learn, and ability to manage competing deadlines.

Experience with HVAC, plumbing, piping, or other mechanical systems is a plus. We also welcome candidates whose education and relevant experience demonstrate strong potential to succeed in the role.
